Leviton Decora Mini Plug-in Switch and Dimmer (2nd Gen) review: Still top in their class

PCWorld

Leviton has been one of the most reliable names in Wi-Fi smart plugs, and for years I relied on one of its first-generation Wi-Fi plugs to power my living-room lights. With this second generation, Leviton brings a streamlined setup process and HomeKit support to the party. Leviton's model D215P is a three-prong on/off switch; model D23LP is a two-prong model with a dimmer feature. Let's start with the specs, which should be unsurprising. The D215P looks identical to the first-generation Wi-Fi plug, with the familiar horizontal brick design and a single three-prong outlet on the face.

Toshiba and Insignia add AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support to their 2020 Fire TVs

Engadget

If you're an Apple user with a 2020 Toshiba or Insignia 4K UHD Smart Fire TV, you'll want to look out for the latest software update for your television set as it adds support AirPlay 2 and HomeKit. AirPlay 2 allows you to stream audio and video content from your iPhone, iPad or Mac to a compatible device. It's also possible to mirror the screen on your iOS device. With HomeKit, meanwhile, you can control your TV using Siri or the Home app on iOS and macOS. Using voice commands, it's possible to turn the TV on and off, as well as adjust the volume and control playback.

Roku's OS 10 brings AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support to its HD streaming devices

Engadget

Roku has started rolling out its latest operating system, and it will give its HD streaming devices AirPlay 2 and HomeKit compatibility. When the company first introduced AirPlay 2 support for its platform, only those with select 4K players and TVs could take advantage of the feature. Now, even those with Roku Express and some HD Roku TV models will be able to stream content directly from their iPhones, iPads and Macs. They'll also be able to control those devices through Siri or the Apple Home app, thanks to the added HomeKit support. Another notable Roku OS 10 feature is Instant Resume, which automatically takes viewers back to the place where they last left off for a faster reload experience. It only works on supported channels, though, and there are only 15 or so at the moment, including AT&T TV, FilmRise, FOX Business Network, FOX News Channel, Fubo Sports Network, HappyKids TV, Plex.tv,

Arlo's Video Doorbell and Pro 3 cameras helped me survive suburbia

Engadget

Soon after moving to a house in the Atlanta metro area last year, I knew I needed a video doorbell. UPS and FedEx would often drop boxes off and never alert me (not great when package thieves are everywhere!). Plus, sales people had the gall to ring my doorbell, unmasked and oblivious to the global pandemic. And if I was playing with my toddler in the backyard or working in the basement, I had trouble hearing if someone was at my door. A video doorbell would solve all of those issues, and give my family a little peace of mind to boot.

TP-Link Kasa Smart Wi-Fi Outdoor Plug review: Individual outlet control makes this the outdoor smart plug to beat

PCWorld

Dealing with devices plugged into outdoor outlets can be challenging, and we don't know of any in-wall smart receptacles rated for the job. Their internal electronics just can't tolerate damp conditions, freezing temperatures, and blistering summertime sun. That's where pig-tail smart plugs like TP-Link's Kasa Smart Wi-Fi Outdoor Plug (model KP400) come in. The bad news is that these types of smart plugs carry premium price tags. The good news is that TP-Link's KP400 is not only more capable than the competing iDevices Outdoor Switch we reviewed last December, it's also a whole dollar cheaper.

Belkin's latest Wemo light switches work natively with HomeKit

Engadget

Until now, using one of Belkin's Wemo Light Switches with Apple's HomeKit has meant attaching a bridge. No more: Belkin is introducing new Light Switches that take advantage of Apple's software-based authentication to offer native HomeKit support. In other words, you don't have to think much about your setup -- you can flick a switch and know that it'll turn on all the lights in your Home app rooms. This isn't completely novel (Philips added HomeKit support to the Hue Tap in 2017), but it's certainly helpful. The new Wemo Light Switches will arrive during the spring and summer in $40 single-pole and $50 three-way versions.
